OAK RIVER — Cattle shows and horse riding competitions denoted the second day of the first stop in western Manitoba’s “Milk Run” fairs on Monday, with area residents coming in from Minnedosa, Rivers and Hamiota to participate and compete.
Two days of agricultural competition included light horse, pony and miniature horse shows, with judged events taking place on both Sunday and Monday. Cattle shows involved several different breeds, including Simmental, Charolais, Shorthorn, Hereford, Angus, Maine Anjou and Limousin, with judging taking place on Monday afternoon.
The Milk Run takes place in six rural Manitoba towns over seven days, including Oak River, Strathclair, Shoal Lake, Hamiota, Harding and Oak Lake. Information on each fair can be found on the town websites and social media.
Strathclair’s Agricultural Society will hold its annual fair today at the community’s ag grounds, starting at 6:30 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast, with admission, and a fair parade along Main Street starting at 9 a.m.
The Heavy Horse Show begins at 10 a.m.
