Assault and resisting arrest

Brandon Police Service arrested a man after receiving a report of a possible domestic disturbance.

Police received the report of a domestic disturbance in Westaway Bay at around 11:30 p.m.

When police got to the residence, the legal tenant had already left. A man answered the door but slammed it once a woman came running down the stairs, police said in a news release.

Police said they could hear yelling.

Communication with the man was unsuccessful and officers established a perimeter around the residence and called in more officers, the release said.

Everybody left the building voluntarily except for one man, who police found hiding in the attic, the release said.

The man allegedly slapped another person in the residence, police said.

A 20-year-old man was arrested and held at BPS for court. He was charged with resisting arrest and assault. BPS had a warrant for his arrest for possessing a firearm when prohibited, breaching probation and failing to attend court.

Winnipeg police also had a warrant for his arrest for failing to comply with a release order.

While searching the vehicle, police said they found a knife and a replica BB gun.

A 22-year-old man was charged with two counts of possessing a weapon and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held in a detention cell to appear in court on Thursday morning.

A 28-year-old woman was charged with two counts of possessing a weapon and was released on an undertaking. She is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.

A 27-year-old woman was charged with possessing cocaine and two counts of possessing a weapon. She was also released on an undertaking and scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.

Replica firearm pointed at officer

Brandon police arrested an 18-year-old man who allegedly pointed a replica firearm at an off-duty police officer on Wednesday.

The officer reported that a vehicle pulled up beside his in the 1500 block of 18th Street and the passenger pointed a firearm at him, police said in a news release.

Police later found the suspect vehicle with the driver inside in the 600 block of 10th Street. They found the passenger and a replica firearm in the Keystone Centre parking lot.

Police released the driver without charges and arrested the passenger.

He was charged with possessing a weapon and pointing a firearm.

The suspect was released with a court date of Sept. 25.
