6 p.m. — Prairie Mountain Health’s Health Promotion unit, the Brandon Public Library, Crow’s General Store and Healthy Together Now invite you to enjoy a Story Walk this month, featuring the children’s book “Dear Street,” by Lindsay Zier-Vogel after 6 p.m. at Crow’s General Store (33 17th St. East) now through July 31. This is a fun, family-friendly activity that places the pages of a picture book along an outdoor walking path. Follow the story one page at a time. Families, individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in this come-and-go experience, which is approximately 0.25 km long with some small hills and directional signage.

7 p.m. — Poor Michael’s Bookshop in Onanole presents Thursday Night Variety Show with host Steve Burgess. The 8th Street Jazz Trio will perform throughout the evening. Special guests include Juno award-winning blues musician Brent Parkin; naturalist Roberta Tesar; Nature Boi(Z) P. Sullivan and P. McDermott; plus special (secret) personalities whose identities will be revealed by the “Back Page Challenge” panel. 2 p.m. — Brandon’s Biggest Water Fight 4.0 is taking place at Bethel Brandon (440 Richmond Ave.) until 4 p.m. today. Families and friends unite in the spirit of summer fun to beat the heat with this free community water fight. There are activities planned for the whole family. This is a free event, but we encourage you to bring your own favourite blaster; we can only provide so many free blasters.

6:30 p.m. — The City of Brandon Parks and Recreation Services hosts Music in the Park in Princess Park on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and good vibes and enjoy an incredible lineup of local talent all summer long. No admission fee. Tonight features Dauphin Chix opener followed by Hearts Desire.

WEDNESDAY

9 a.m. — The Terri Cosens and Chris Low Re/Max Valleyview Farm Sales 2025 Canadian High School Rodeo finals take place until Aug. 2 at the Keystone Centre. Bringing together top junior high and high school rodeo athletes from across Canada for a chance to compete at a national level. Featuring cutting, reined cow horse, barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and other traditional rodeo disciplines. Today features light rifle and trap shooting. Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (July and August). Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. In the Main Gallery is “Through my window, there is a view,” with artist Opeyemi Olukotun until Sept. 6. Showing in the Kayes Community Gallery is “Attached” with Carberry-based artist Clemente Villamayor (aka Tengnamoe) showing until Aug. 9. Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Summer hours for the museum are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our gallery has new interpretive displays explaining the CATP. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — We opened our new temporary exhibit, marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The main features of the exhibit include a trench wall, First World War artillery and two machine-gun pits. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Dr.) — We are pleased to announce the opening of our third exhibition of the 2025 season. Exhibition 3 runs from July 15 to Aug. 13 and features the works of Fredrick Spence and Patrick Paul. Opening reception is Saturday at 7 p.m. 2025 marks our 55th season of celebrating the arts with our community. We hope you can visit during this exciting and art-filled season.

Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — Killarney-Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Aug. 1-3 — The Western Canadian Nationals Car Show 2025 will take place on the Keystone Centre grounds with TV personalities Mike Hall from Rust Valley Restorers and Avery Shoaf from Wildman Garage in attendance. Spectator show hours: Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Horsepower and High Heels pin-up contest hosted by Megan Hamill Lashes on Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. Battle of the Bands on Aug. 3. Aug. 1-3 — Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival takes place at the Historic Selo Ukraina Site just south of Dauphin over the weekend with entertainment on three different stages. Aug. 2 — Experience the vibrance of Nigeria at Naija Summer Fest 2025 taking place at the Riverbank Discovery Centre (545 Conservation Dr.) at 4 p.m. Hosted by the United Nigerians in Brandon Association (UNBA), this family-friendly festival features traditional music, high-energy dance, authentic Nigerian cuisine, cultural displays, games and storytelling. Aug. 2-3 — Friends of Riding Mountain National Park are holding their annual used book sale at the RMNP Learning Centre (154 Columbine St.) featuring thousands of books, DVD, and puzzles. All money collected go to support our children’s education programs. Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Aug. 7 — Cruise Night takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street. All vehicles are welcome. Free to participants and spectators. Presented by Brandon & Area Car Enthusiasts (BACE), Kelleher Ford, Cal Jackson of Integral Realty and Off The Wall Signs.

Aug. 7-16 — Canada’s National Arabian Championship is being held at the Keystone Centre. This event is the largest Arabian Horse Show in Canada. Exhibitors from all over North America gather to compete for the title of National Champion of Canada in well over 100 different classes of in hand and under saddle competition. Admission is free. Come see the show and tour the barns.

Aug. 8 — Murray and Peter present “Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at GoldenGirlsTour.com or at the WMCA box office or call 204-728-9510.

Aug. 8-9 — Head on down to Melita for the annual Banana Days. Loads of entertainment for one and all. Carnival at River Park, Fire Dancers, corn maze, karaoke and entertainment, beer gardens and much more. Blast off with Sunny and Breezy on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the statue site with free banana splits!

Aug. 8-10 — Welcome to the 29th annual Sandy Lake Western Days. Over the weekend you can enjoy roller skating at the roller rink, beer gardens, live music, parade, Show and Shine, hay bale races, duck race, golf cart rodeo, Shevchenko Dancers and much more.

Aug. 10 — Ladies Western Scramble at Wheat City Golf Course has a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Deadline for entries is Aug. 4. Entry fee for this two-lady team event is $85, $40 for juniors with proceeds going to the Westman Women’s Shelter. For more information or to e-transfer, contact Brenda at 204-721-1488. Aug. 30 — Elkhorn Resort presents the third annual Hawaiian Luau Party at 5 p.m. Pig roast dinner, dancers from Island Breeze, live music, cash bar, games and more.
