The Brandon Chamber of Commerce has appointed Curtis Hullick as its new general manager.

Hullick, who began his new role this week, brings a wealth of experience from the conservation and non-profit sector, having spent more than two decades with the Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation.

Originally from Shoal Lake, Hullick is a graduate of Assiniboine College’s agribusiness program and has served in leadership roles for much of his professional life. The move to the chamber was driven by passion for community engagement and professional growth, Hullick said in an interview.

“The opportunity to build a business network, meet new people and challenge myself in a new environment was very appealing,” he said. “Brandon has become home for my family and me. I’ve volunteered on many community initiatives, and this role allows me to continue giving back in a meaningful way.”

As general manager, Hullick will be responsible for guiding the chamber’s operations and programs under the direction of its board of directors. He takes the reins, he said, at a time when the chamber has been gaining momentum through signature events such as the State of the City, State of the Province and State of the Chamber — initiatives that provide platforms for direct dialogue between businesses and political leaders.

Hullick praised the chamber’s recent efforts to foster stronger ties between the business community and government.

“Those events have been very successful,” he said. “They give local businesses a chance to ask direct questions of political leaders on critical issues like tariffs and economic development. I’m excited to continue building on that strong foundation.”

While he emphasized continuity for now, Hullick said he remains open to new ideas and improvements.

“We’re not looking to make major changes immediately,” he said. “There’s value in evaluating what we’re doing, seeing where we can improve and building on the success that’s already in place. The calendar will still include luncheons, after-hours events and those key engagement forums.”

Hullick acknowledged his new role comes with some challenges.

“The biggest task right now is making sure people know the chamber is here for them,” he said. “We want to be seen as a partner — an organization working with businesses to grow, adapt and thrive.”

A longtime resident of Brandon, Hullick said he and his family are deeply rooted in the community. His wife works as a nurse at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, and their children attend Vincent Massey High School.

“We’re not going anywhere,” he added with a smile. “Brandon is our home, and I’m excited to serve this community in this new role.”
