6 p.m. — To kick off The Western Canadian Nationals Car Show 2025, there will be a special downtown Brandon Cruise Night that will take place on Rosser and Princess avenues between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m.

6:30 p.m. — The City of Brandon presents Open Mic Night on the Fusion Credit Union Stage at the Riverbank Discovery Centre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event will take place every second Thursday until Aug. 28. Dallas Hulley from Brandon Open Mic will be your host.

7 a.m. — The 142nd Birtle Agricultural Society Fair kicks off with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. Fair features light and heavy horse shows. Carnival tent, children’s activities, wagon rides, beer gardens, MGRA show at 1:30 p.m. and a live auction at 7 p.m.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (July and August). Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. In the Main Gallery is “Through my window, there is a view,” with artist Opeyemi Olukotun until Sept. 6. Showing in the Kayes Community Gallery is “Attached” with Carberry-based artist Clemente Villamayor (aka Tengnamoe) showing until Aug. 9. Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Summer hours for the museum are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our gallery has new interpretive displays explaining the CATP. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — We opened our new temporary exhibit, marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The main features of the exhibit include a trench wall, First World War artillery and two machine-gun pits. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Dr.) — We are pleased to announce the opening of our third exhibition of the 2025 season. Exhibition 3 runs until Aug. 13 and features the works of Fredrick Spence and Patrick Paul. 2025 marks our 55th season of celebrating the arts with our community. Aug. 7 — Cruise Night takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street. All vehicles are welcome. Free to participants and spectators. Presented by Brandon & Area Car Enthusiasts (BACE), Kelleher Ford, Cal Jackson of Integral Realty and Off The Wall Signs.

Aug. 7-16 — Canada’s National Arabian Championship is being held at the Keystone Centre. This event is the largest Arabian Horse Show in Canada. Exhibitors from all over North America gather to compete for the title of National Champion of Canada in more than 100 different classes of in-hand and under-saddle competition. Admission is free. Come see the show and tour the barns.

Aug. 8 — Murray and Peter present “Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at GoldenGirlsTour.com or at the WMCA box office or call 204-728-9510.

Aug. 8-9 — It’s Seniors Days at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Nature-focused presentations and learning from the land and wildlife will bring together residents from care homes across Brandon as we connect them with the Discovery Centre. A day of outdoor speakers and presentations. Join us to hear from Peter Sawatzky, The General Museum, Bee City Brandon and many more. Food trucks, public art, trail tours, free transit bus and nature learning. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9 will be open to the public. Bring your families to enjoy this free event.

Aug. 8-9 — Head on down to Melita for the annual Banana Days. Loads of entertainment for one and all. Carnival at River Park, Fire Dancers, corn maze, karaoke and entertainment, beer gardens and much more. Blast off with Sunny and Breezy on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the statue site with free banana splits.

Aug. 8-10 — Welcome to the 29th annual Sandy Lake Western Days. Over the weekend you can enjoy roller skating at the roller rink, beer gardens, live music, parade, Show and Shine, hay bale races, duck race, golf cart rodeo, Shevchenko Dancers and much more.

Aug. 9 — Canadians and Americans will meet at the International Peace Garden for the annual “Handshake Across the Border.” Visitors are expected to join hands across the 49th parallel at the Peace Garden’s central terraces and chapel. The celebration highlights the continued peaceful relationship between the two countries. The handshake will be part of a full day of events running from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. including garden tours, a Cruise-In car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., floral design demonstrations, scavenger hunts, children’s activities and a vendor market.

Aug. 9 — Lemonade For Hope CancerCare fundraiser, hosted by the Chimo Lemonade Ladies, will take place in the Westoba parking lot on Second Avenue in Rivers at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will be selling delicious cold lemonade and our locally made crafts and homemade baking. As well we will have gift baskets for raffle. All proceeds and donations are sent to CancerCare Manitoba to provide services and supports to Manitobans with cancer.

Aug. 10 — Ladies Western Scramble at Wheat City Golf Course has a 10 a.m. shotgun start. Deadline for entries is Aug. 4. Aug. 14-17 — The 2025 Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze take place over the weekend. On Aug. 14 Downtown Daze takes over the town’s main business district with fun for the whole family including live entertainment, food, carnival games, local vendors and even a mechanical bull. Semi-professional rodeo action takes place all weekend long in the Tundra Oil and Gas Place arena with a matinée in the afternoon and evening performances which include mutton-busting. The competition attracts top-calibre contestants from across the Prairies as well as northern U.S., New Zealand and Australia. Barn Bar and Demolition Derby.

Aug. 15 — Elvis Presley dinner and show will take place at Danceland (119 Wasagaming Dr.). in Wasaganing. Elvis Presley tribute artist Rory Allen will entertain with a full-length show of solid gold Elvis hits. Southern-style buffet dinner featuring ribs, cornbread, potato salad and all the fixings. Doors open at 6 p.m. ; dinner at 6:30 p.m.; show at 8 p.m.

Aug. 16 — Westman Wilderness Club: Robert and Audrey are planning a gravel road bike ride in the Olha area (located north of Shoal Lake, just south of RMNP). Aug. 16-17 — The City of Brandon Parks and Recreation presents the Doors Open Tours from noon to 4 p.m. each day. Step inside some of Brandon’s most historic buildings and museums during this semi-guided tour weekend. Passports available the second week of August. Aug. 23-24 — Whitemud Music Festival takes place in the Landsdowne Centennial Park at Arden. Friday entertainment includes Ranke, Lunch Money and The B34st. Saturday features Annabella Proper, Brad Johnson and the Talent, Roulette, 8 Track Shuffle, Damn the Torpedoes (Tom Petty tribute); For Those About to Rock (AC/DC tribute); Rattlesnake Suitcase (Guns n’ Roses tribute). Aug. 30 — Elkhorn Resort presents the third annual Hawaiian Luau Party at 5 p.m. Pig roast dinner, dancers from Island Breeze, live music, cash bar, games and more.

Sept. 6 — Festival of Joy will be held at St. Augustine school grounds (330 3rd St.). This is a family event of fun, games, sports, music, trivia, food and presentations that highlight the diverse cultures in our community. This event takes place from 1 to 8 p.m. and is free to attend.

Sept. 11 — Join us for a free concert from the RCAF Band at the Fusion Credit Union Stage at the Riverbank Discovery Centre at 7 p.m. They will be playing all of your favourite rock, pop and country hits.

Sept. 11-13 — The Fall Rotary Book Sale will be held in the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn featuring more than 75,000 books. Free book for every child. Free admission. Hours: Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
