ARMED ROBBERY
Brandon Police Service arrested two people on Monday after they allegedly tried to rob a man who was walking home with his groceries.
A man reported that he was walking home when a man and woman approached him in the 300 block of Ninth Street. He said the man asked what he had and allegedly tried to cut him with a knife, BPS said in a news release.
Police said the suspects fled once people started to gather.
Police found two individuals who matched the description of the suspects at around 1:30 a.m.
A 33-year-old man was arrested and held until his scheduled court appearance on Tuesday. He was charged with attempted armed robbery and failing to comply with a probation order by having a weapon.
A 23-year-old woman was arrested and released on an undertaking. She is charged for being a party to the offence of armed robbery and is scheduled to appear in court in October.
FLED POLICE WITH INFANT
Brandon police took a woman into custody after she allegedly tried to flee from police with her infant on Monday.
Child and Family Services contacted police to help with a well-being check on a 24-year-old woman and her infant in the 3500 block of McDonald Avenue at around 4:30 p.m.
When police arrived, they allegedly saw the woman flee while holding the child, and in doing so, ran into active traffic, police said in a news release.
Police arrested the woman, who they said was extremely intoxicated, and Brandon Fire and Emergency Services assessed and cared for the infant, who had no major injuries, the release said.
The woman was held in custody to appear in court on Tuesday morning.
WEAPON CHARGES
Brandon Police Service arrested a man early Tuesday morning after he allegedly failed a roadside breath test and had multiple weapons in his possession.
Police conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Rosser Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. after an officer saw the vehicle run a red light with its headlights turned off, BPS said in a news release.
Police said the man was in possession of brass knuckles, a hatchet and an imitation Glock handgun.
After further investigation, police found that he was under an 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
Officers arrested the 21-year-old man and held him in a detention cell. He was to be released on an undertaking once sober, the release said.
The man was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon and one count of possession of a prohibited weapon.
He was also issued several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act and Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act.
