Construction on a First Street roundabout in southeast Brandon is keeping the intersection with Maryland Avenue closed until Sept. 8.

The intersection will be closed to pedestrians until the middle of the month.

Work on the First Street and Maryland Avenue roundabout is expected to be completed by the end of September.

“Once the roadwork is done, all they have left to complete are the walkways and landscaping,” said Kyle Winters, director of engineering for the City of Brandon. “Over the next month, they will wrap that all up.”

The work, which started when the weather warmed up in May, was initially only supposed to close the intersection between June 30 and Sept. 1.

The construction is currently in Phase 2 of three phases. The current phase is focused on work on the west side of the roundabout.

Phase 3 will be focused on work on multi-use pathways and landscaping.
