STOLEN TRUCK RECOVERED

Brandon police arrested a man after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday.

A Brandon resident notified police that somebody had stolen a white GMC Sierra truck from their garage on Waterloo Crescent at some point between 9 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

BPS and Manitoba RCMP recovered the vehicle near Carberry, where they arrested and charged the driver with possessing property obtained by crime, flight and failing to comply with a probation order, police said in a news release.

The man was issued a ticket for driving while disqualified as well.

The man was brought back to BPS cells and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

Brandon police arrested a man after he allegedly tried to stab a mother and son at a business on Tuesday.

An employee at a business on the 700 block of Princess Avenue reported at about 1:30 p.m. that a pair of men approached two people — a 41-year-old woman and her 21-year-old son — and one of the men tried to stab them, police said in a news release.

No one was injured and the suspect left the area.

The interaction was caught on video surveillance and the son gave a statement to police, the release said.

Police found and arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with assault with a weapon.

He was released on an undertaking and scheduled to appear in court in November.

FIREARM POSSESSION

A man was arrested on Tuesday after police were notified that he allegedly had a firearm on him.

Police were told that the man “flashed a handgun” and was on his way to a business on the first block of 10th Street at around 2 p.m.

Police found a man who had an imitation BB gun on him. He was arrested and charged with three counts of possessing a firearm or weapon contrary to court orders.

He was held in cells overnight and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
