Brandon parents who lost their only son in a workplace accident say they are in awe of the $75,360 that has been raised by his closest friends for the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation and STARS air ambulance.
Bill and Shelly Old’s son, Jordan — a Red Seal plumber — was seven days shy of this 30th birthday in 2022 when he inhaled the lethal gas hydrogen sulfide while on the job. He could not be resuscitated and died eight days later.
Since 2023, a group of Jordan’s friends have organized three golf tournaments in his honour, with the most recent one held Aug. 8 at the Wheat City Golf Course.

Jordan Old died in October 2022 in a work-related incident, seven days before his 30th birthday. Since 2023, a group of Jordan's friends have organized three golf tournaments in his honour, with the most recent one held Aug. 8 at the Wheat City Golf Course. In three years, golfers have raised more than $75,000 for the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation and STARS air ambulance. (File)
In the first year, the golfers raised $15,000 that went to STARS, said Shelly Old.
Last year, $27,360 was raised and split between STARS and the hospital foundation.
“We now know that from this tournament, the donation amount will be $33,000, and we will share it between the two like we did before,” Old said.
“We haven’t determined the percentage yet, but we know we want the foundation funds to go towards the new critical care centre that’s being built at the hospital,” she said.
“We had 176 golfers this year, and Bill and I are so grateful to all of Jordan’s friends and sponsors who came out. To have raised more than $75,000 in three years means a lot.”
