7 p.m. — The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba welcomes a new season of Manitoban excellence at a public receptions in the Main Gallery, as well as the first exhibition by the AGSM’s own Free Flow Artist Collective. Join us to celebrate Anita Lebeau’s animated film “8 Rooms” and the dioramas from seven different artists that set the scene. Kevin Conlin’s ceramic work in “Ancestral Aviators” looks from the ancient sky at an extinct sea and the shale that remains. Food and beverages will be served and the artists will be in attendance.

9 a.m. — The Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place every Friday at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.) with seasonal produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, crafts and more until 4 p.m. This farmers’ market runs year-round.

11:30 a.m. — Prairie Wires Modular Festival of Electronic Sound is Canada’s only multi-day, multi-venue festival focused on the art and music of the modular synthesizer. Today and tomorrow, electronic musicians of all styles — classical to punk — and everything in between will converge in Brandon for two jam-packed days of free concerts, a free public open-house symposium and free interactive activities across six unique events throughout several locations in the downtown area and on Brandon University campus. Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. Opening in the Main Gallery on Thursday are two exhibitions: “8 Rooms” and “Ancestral Aviators.” In the Kayes Community Gallery is “I couldn’t have done it without you” from the Free Flow Artist Collective, on until Oct. 4. Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our gallery has new interpretive displays explaining the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles, and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in coordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War.
