Brandon City Council approved the names of three new roads in the city’s southwest corner at its Monday meeting.

Manitou Drive, Foxtail Drive and Sage Drive will all run near the new Brandon School Division K-8 school.

Along with the new names, council approved the extension of Lakeview Drive and Plateau Drive southward into the Brookwood South neighbourhood.

Developer John Burgess, who made the application through Waverly Estates Ltd., said the rest of the development will continue with the nature theme for the names of roads. That follows the theme of the Brookwood North neighbourhood.

Another seven or eight roads will be named as part of the development, he said before the meeting.

Manitou Drive is set to be one of the main roads in the neighbourhood, intersecting with 34th Street, according to a city council report. Foxtail and Sage drives will be residential streets.

The new school, set to open in September 2027, will be at the corner of Manitou Drive and Plateau Drive, a map included in the report showed.

Coun. Kris Desjarlais (Ward 2) said the Brandon Urban Indigenous Peoples’ Council “will be pleased to see an Indigenous name on one of the streets of Brandon” in Manitou Drive.
