The Apple and Pine Harvest Fall Market made its official debut at the Keystone Centre grounds last weekend, drawing large crowds to shop local.

The event, which marked the market’s first dedicated fall edition, was a milestone in the growing lineup of community markets, co-organizer Cassandra Lesiuk told the Sun.

“We started in 2018, usually hosting spring and Christmas markets, but we always thought fall would be a great opportunity,” Lesiuk said. “This is our first official harvest outdoor fall market, and we’re blown away by the turnout today. Brandon really shows up to support local.”

The market welcomed 75 vendors from Brandon, Westman, Winnipeg and even Saskatchewan, offering a wide variety of goods from home décor, art and woodworking to clothing, jewelry, food and beverages, co-organizer Michelle Lewis told the Sun.

Visitors browsed stalls featuring local favourites such as Baltic Brothers, Dead Horse Cider and Sheepdog Brew, alongside handmade crafts and farm-to-table produce.

Lewis said the event’s harvest theme was central to its planning.

“We wanted a September market that pulled in pumpkins, market gardeners, live music, a kids’ corner — the whole community vibe. It’s more than shopping; it’s about bringing people together.”

Attendance was strong, with the organizers estimating around 1,500 people over the two-day event. Long lines formed early and the flow of shoppers continued steadily throughout the day.

In keeping with Apple and Pine’s tradition of giving back, Lewis said, proceeds from this market will support Brandon Regional Search and Rescue, with funds raised through the 50/50 draw and pumpkin-painting activities.

“Each of our markets partners with a local charity,” Lewis said. “For Christmas, we’ll be working with the Westman Women’s Resource Centre, and our spring event supports Westman Dreams for Kids.”

While the outdoor setup presented a few minor challenges, such as uneven ground and the unpredictability of September weather, the organizers said the day exceeded expectations.

Their focus now shifts to the next big event: the Apple and Pine Christmas Market, scheduled for Nov. 15-16 in the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre.

“We’re so thankful to the Brandon and area community for continuing to support local makers and small businesses,” said Lewis. “This is just the beginning for our fall markets.”
