Mischief over $5,000

The Brandon Police Service arrested a man in relation to an incident in August in which a man allegedly took a baseball bat to a car after the driver unintentionally drove onto private property.

Police received a report of “significant damage” to a vehicle after an incident west of the city on Aug. 22, BPS said in a news release Tuesday.

A vehicle drove onto a private property unintentionally, and the property owner allegedly hit the vehicle multiple times with a metal baseball bat.

Police identified the suspect and charged a 73-year-old man with mischief over $5,000.

He was released on an undertaking and scheduled to appear in court in December.

Breach of peace

Two people were arrested after Brandon Police Service received a report of an altercation involving a group of teenage girls and a mother attempting to pick up her daughter early Tuesday morning.

Police were sent to the disturbance in the 1600 block of McTavish Avenue at around 2:20 a.m.

The mother did not want to pursue assault charges but asked for the police service’s help in retrieving her daughter, BPS said in a news release Tuesday.

When officers got to the residence, a 20-year-old man came to the door and became aggressive with police, the release said.

Officers arrested him for breach of peace and lodged him in BPS detention cells until he sobered up.

Police also found a 14-year-old boy at the residence who was in breach of his release order by being out of his home past his curfew, police said.

He was arrested and held in custody until his scheduled court appearance on Tuesday.

BPS said officers found the daughter inside the residence and turned her over to her mother.
