A local business has made one of the largest contributions of the year to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation.

Chemtrade Logistics donated $100,000 for the hospital foundation’s capital campaign, called A Foundation for Care, in support of the new critical care centre under construction.

The donation will make a lasting impact across the region, said Stacy Senkbeil, BRHC Foundation board chair.

Brandon has the only intensive care unit between Winnipeg and Regina.

“We are incredibly grateful to Chemtrade for their commitment to our mission,” Senkbeil said in a news release Thursday.

“Their support helps us continue our work in enhancing care and community impact at the BRHC, and it sends a strong message about the power of local partnerships.”

The expansion of the critical care centre includes a new 16-bed intensive care unit with individual ICU rooms, compared to the current shared area.

There will also be 30 higher acuity medical beds to support patients requiring specialized care, as well as an outdoor courtyard for patients and families.

A spokesperson for Chemtrade said while the Brandon plant has changed ownership over the years, it has always supported the community through donations to BRHC.

“Our staff, our families and community members all rely on this care when in need, so it was an easy decision for us,” the spokesperson said.

“We hope this also gets some other businesses thinking and reaching out to the foundation, to see how they can help as well.”
