Brandon’s Community Sportsplex arena is set to reopen next week after more than two years of it being closed.
Public programming will start Oct. 1, with rentals opening on Oct. 6, the city said in a news release Friday.
The 30 Knowlton Dr. arena shuttered in March 2023 because of safety concerns over the ice plant’s potential ammonia leaks, which could be fatal under certain circumstances.
The rink at the Brandon Community Sportsplex is expected to reopen next week.
“We’re excited to reopen the ice arena at the Sportsplex,” Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett said in the release.
“The community asked for ice to return, and we delivered. This isn’t just about a facility, it’s about supporting the sports and activities that matter to Brandon.”
The total cost of repairs was an expected $6.3 million as of July.
A grand reopening is scheduled for the afternoon of Oct. 11. It will include a ceremony, free public skating and disco skating with a DJ.
Details on programming and ice time schedules are available on the city’s website.
