Drugs found in traffic stop

Brandon Police Service arrested two men early Thursday morning after allegedly finding more than 10 ounces of illicit drugs during a traffic stop.

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 1500 block of 18th Street North at around 1:30 a.m.

While searching the vehicle, officers found about 8.7 ounces of methamphetamine and around 3.2 ounces of cocaine, police said in a news release.

Police said one of the men also had $3,250 in cash.

Both men, 29 and 23, were arrested, lodged in BPS detention cells and were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

They were each charged with single counts of possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, as well as other offences.

Child allegedly assaulted

Brandon Police Service arrested a woman after she allegedly assaulted her child while intoxicated on Wednesday.

Officers responded to a 911 call from a residence on Cornell Bay and found out that a woman had assaulted her daughter, which resulted in a bump on her forehead and a bloody nose, police said in a news release.

Police said the woman was “highly intoxicated.”

During the investigation, police found one other adult present who was was breaching his release order by communicating with the woman and being at her residence, police said.

Officers arrested the 36-year-old woman and 45-year-old man, and they were both lodged in BPS detention cells.

The woman was charged with assault, and the man was charged with two counts of breaching his release order.

Both were scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Child and Family Services went to the residence to ensure that the children were safe, BPS said.

Fled with brass knuckles

A man was arrested after he allegedly ran from police and was carrying brass knuckles early Thursday morning.

Brandon Police Service officers found a man near Princess Park at around 12:50 p.m. who was breaching his curfew, and when he spotted police, he tried to run, police said in a news release.

Police said he gave up running, and officers arrested him without incident.

While arresting the man, officers found that he had brass knuckles, despite being bound by an undertaking with a condition not to possess any weapons, police said.

The 36-year-old man was lodged in BPS detention cells and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

He faces numerous weapons charges and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Break and enter

Brandon Police Service is investigating a break and enter after a rental property owner noticed suspicious activity and missing items on Wednesday.

Police were informed that the owner showed up at the residence on the 100 block of Seventh Street and found the shower running and cupboards open as well as tools missing, BPS said in a news release.

The break and enter remains under investigation and BPS asks that anyone with information phone its non-emergency line at 204-729-2345.

Drug possession

Brandon Police Service arrested a man early Wednesday morning after allegedly finding methamphetamine in his vehicle.

BPS stopped a vehicle at First Street and Park Avenue at around 2:30 a.m.

The driver had an expired driver’s licence and two packages of unstamped tobacco in the vehicle, which led officers to find methamphetamine as well, BPS said in a news release Wednesday.

The 57-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

He was released on an appearance notice with a court date scheduled in December.

Weapon and disguise

Brandon Police Service arrested a man after officers allegedly found him wearing a mask and in possession of a BB gun on Wednesday.

Police stopped a pedestrian wearing a red mask in the 1600 block of Sixth Street at around 4 a.m.

The man had a box cutter and a BB gun, despite being bound by an undertaking with conditions not to have these items, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers arrested the 28-year-old man and charged him with possession of a weapon, disguise with intent and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was scheduled to appear in court later Wednesday morning.

Fatal rollover

A driver was killed when a vehicle went into a ditch and rolled on Highway 16 on Wednesday.

Portage la Prairie RCMP were contacted about the crash south of Westbourne at 7:15 a.m. Officers found the heavily damaged vehicle in the north ditch and emergency crews already there.

The 27-year-old driver, a Rural Municipality of Woodlands man, was declared dead at the scene.

Manitoba RCMP said an initial investigation determined the driver was going very fast when the northbound vehicle went into the ditch at a curve in the road.
