The byelection to fill the vacant reeve position in the Rural Municipality of Cornwallis is set for Dec. 3.
Nomination papers have to be filled out, signed by at least 25 eligible voters and filed in person by Oct. 21, the municipality announced on Monday.
Advance voting for the vacant position is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 24 and 29, the municipality’s senior election official told the Sun.

Sam Hofer stepped down as reeve of the RM of Cornwallis earlier this year after serving 23 years on council. (File)
The byelection was triggered after Sam Hofer resigned in April. The next scheduled municipal election is Oct. 28, 2026, meaning the reeve elected this December will have a term of less than a year.
People interested in running for reeve and getting nomination papers can email the senior election official at seo.rmcornwallis@gmail.com.
