Sioux Valley Dakota Nation will hold an election for chief and five councillors next month.
Two people are running for chief and 14 people for five councillor positions in the Nov. 13 election, the First Nation said in a notice on its Facebook account.
Incumbent Chief Vince Tacan will face former chief Jennifer Bone in a two-person race for the two-year chief position.
For the councillor positions, incumbents Jonathan Bell, Melissa Hotain and Carol Johnson are up against Harold Blacksmith, Darryl Hapa, Wilson Kennedy, Bill McKay, Darryl McKay, Kimberley G. McKay, Michelle Rosmus, Jacqueline Ross-Demas, Koda Tacan, Lydia Taylor and Randell Wasicuna.
The election will be held at the Veterans Memorial Centre (Band Hall) between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Electors can request online or mail-in voting as well by calling the electoral officer at 204-228-4786 or emailing election3854@hotmail.com.
A public forum will be held on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. in the hall. No details on the event’s format were mentioned.
