Through an investigation, police determined that a 14-year-old girl challenged a 13-year-old girl to fight, BPS said in a news release Tuesday.

The victim tried to leave but was grabbed by the hair, punched several times, pushed to the ground and kicked, police said.

BPS said the incident was recorded on video.

Officers found and arrested the suspect on Monday and charged her with assault.

She was released on an undertaking and scheduled to appear in court in December.

Wanted man flees police

Brandon Police Service arrested a man wanted for violent offences after a foot chase on Sunday.

Officers saw a man walking in the 300 block of Eighth Street at around 9:45 a.m. and recognized him from an incident the day before, BPS said in a news release Tuesday.

When police told the man that they were detaining him for an investigation, he allegedly ran away. Officers chased him to an area around the 1000 block of Lorne Avenue, where the man ran into a residence, BPS said.

While running, the man “discarded” a fanny pack, which police said had a canister of bear spray inside.

Officers got permission to go inside the residence and found the man.

BPS arrested the 30-year-old man on the strength of two outstanding warrants for charges of assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, failing to attend court and possessing a weapon.

When the man was in the police cruiser, he damaged the rear door, police said.

The man now faces new charges of mischief under $5,000, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon. He was held in custody in BPS detention cells until his scheduled court appearance on Monday.
