SECURITY ALARM ALERTS WOMAN TO MAN IN HER HOUSE

Brandon Police Service arrested a man on Wednesday after he allegedly broke into a woman’s home and caused damage.

A woman was alerted that her security alarm was sounding at her residence at around 6 p.m.

When she looked at her security footage, she saw that a man, who has an order not to contact the woman, was inside her residence, police said in a news release.

Police went to the residence, where they found and arrested a 63-year-old man.

He was charged with breaking and entering, committing mischief and three counts of breaching his release order.

The man was held in BPS detention cells until his scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.

IIU PROBING GIRL’S ARREST

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating the arrest of a girl who was allegedly playing “ding dong ditch” when an off-duty RCMP officer in Brandon chased and handcuffed her.

The Brandon Police Service was dispatched to a woman’s residence after she reported that her daughter had been brought home in handcuffs after midnight on Oct. 19.

The man was later identified as an off-duty RCMP officer, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba said in a news release on Wednesday.

BPS found out that five youths were playing “ding dong ditch,” a game that involves ringing the doorbell at a residence and running away, the release said.

A witness said a man at one of the houses got in his vehicle, chased the youths and caught one girl, the IIU said.

The off-duty officer then brought the girl back to her residence in handcuffs, the IIU said.

BPS notified the IIU of the incident on Oct. 21.

The civilian director of the IIU determined that it would be in the public’s interest to investigate the matter.

The IIU asked that any people who saw or have video footage that could help with the investigation contact the IIU toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.

Since the investigation is ongoing, no further details will be released at this time.
