The Manitoba NDP is hosting its party convention at the Keystone Centre in Brandon starting today.

The three-day convention includes the 2025 Westman Gala with Premier Wab Kinew on Saturday, described as the party’s biggest event of the year in western Manitoba.

The convention is a chance for the party to come together and celebrate its achievements, Kinew said in a letter addressed to NDP members across the province.

“Since our last convention, we’ve accomplished a lot — and it’s the voice of members like you who have helped lead the way forward,” Kinew said.

“But our work isn’t done yet. With two years to go until the next election, this is the time for us to get together, get energized, and get to work to build up our party.”

Party members will debate several dozen policy resolutions over the weekend.

The topics include opening new medical clinics, planning for future evacuations, establishing standards for artificial intelligence in schools and providing government help to agricultural producers, among others.

The resolutions are broken into 10 different priority categories, each with multiple resolutions.

Along with setting priorities for Manitoba’s governing party, the convention will include the election of party president and treasurer.

Kinew is scheduled to give a leader’s report on Saturday, with other addresses and award presentations also taking place during the convention.

There will also be regional breakout meetings.

A pancake breakfast is scheduled for Sunday morning and karaoke today.

More information on the convention can be found on the Manitoba NDP’s website.
