DISTURBANCE LEADS TO ARRESTS

The Brandon Police Service arrested two suspects after a disturbance in the Westaway Bay area early Friday morning.

BPS received reports that individuals were banging on doors and looking through the window of a residence at around 1:20 a.m.

A resident reported that one of the suspects was “holding something suspicious,” BPS said in a news release Friday.

Officers arrived in the area and detained a 20-year-old man for investigation. During a safety pat-down, they found a replica pellet gun in the pocket of his hoodie, police said.

When police told the man he was under arrest, he ran away. He was arrested after a short chase.

The man was charged with two counts of breaching his release order for not abiding by his curfew and possessing a weapon, the release said. He was transported to BPS detention cells, where he was held until a court appearance on Friday.

Officers also found a 15-year-old boy at the scene who had a canister of bear spray on him, BPS said.

He was arrested and charged with possessing a weapon. He was released to a guardian on an undertaking with a court appearance scheduled in January 2026.

SUSPECT IN NURSE ASSAULT ARRESTED

A man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly threw a garbage can at a nurse more than a year ago.

The Brandon Police Service arrested the man after the Crown recommended proceeding on the charges, BPS said in a news release Friday.

The 21-year-old man was charged with assault and assault with a weapon. Police released him on an appearance notice with a court date scheduled in January 2026.
