VIDEO FOOTAGE OF ARMED ROBBERY SOUGHT
RCMP are investigating an armed robbery at a business in Souris on Monday and are looking for residents in the area who may have video footage of the suspect.
Souris RCMP were sent to a report of an armed robbery at a business on First Street South at about 8:45 p.m.
Officers arrived at the scene within minutes, and an employee told police that an unknown man with a handgun demanded cash and cigarettes from behind the counter, RCMP said in a news release on Wednesday.
The employee, who was not physically injured, handed over the items and the man ran away, the release said.
Officers patrolled the area with help from RCMP dog services, but they did not find the suspect.
Mounties said the suspect was described as 5-foot-6 and wearing a dark hoodie, a coat, a balaclava and ski goggles.
RCMP are appealing to residents between Crescent Manor and Highway 2, including Third Street and Second Street as well as First and Crescent Avenue, who may
have video footage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Souris RCMP detachment at 204-483-2854.
TEENS CHARGED AFTER MAN SHOT BY HUNTERS
Three teens were arrested on Monday after a man in the RM of Victoria was accidentally shot by hunters, Mounties say.
Treherne RCMP received a report of a 66-year-old man with a gunshot wound at his residence on Road 53 North at around 10:45 a.m.
When officers arrived, one of the residents said emergency medical services had already taken the man to the hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the arm, the RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
The man was released from the hospital later in the day.
Police were informed that a group of “young hunters” — two boys and one girl — fired an errant round, and it struck the man while he was outside, Mounties said. Officers arrested the 14-year-old girl and two boys aged 16 and 17 without incident.
The three teens were each charged with careless use of a firearm, discharge of a firearm while being reckless and assault with a weapon.
The girl and the 16-year-old boy were additionally charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm. They will appear in court at a future date. Treherne RCMP continue to investigate.
IMPAIRED DRIVER
A woman was arrested after police received a report of a possible impaired driver on Tuesday evening.
The caller told police that they saw a vehicle driving over a curb and becoming stuck diagonally in a driveway in the 500 block of Queens Avenue East at around 9:45 p.m., BPS said in a news release Wednesday.
It was reported that a woman got out of the vehicle, knocked on the door of the home and “engaged in aggressive conversation on whether they owned or wanted a cat,” before returning to the vehicle, police said.
The woman was able to get herself out of the driveway and travelled west toward First Street, the release said.
Officers found and stopped the vehicle, where police said the woman displayed signs of impairment.
She refused to give a breath sample, and the vehicle’s owner was served with papers for the vehicle’s impoundment, BPS said.
Officers arrested the 28-year-old woman and charged her with operating a motor vehicle while impaired and refusing to provide a sample on demand.
The woman was later released on an appearance notice with a court date scheduled on Monday.
BUSINESS BREAK-IN
The Brandon Police Service is investigating a break-in at a downtown business on Tuesday.
Police received a report of a break-and-enter at a business in the 1600 block of Rosser Avenue at around 4:45 p.m.
At around 1:30 a.m., someone had used a crowbar to pry open the front door of the business, police said in a news release.
Roughly $500 worth of merchandise was stolen.
The incident remains under investigation.
