A trial for a man charged with child luring and child-pornography-related offences was adjourned on Wednesday at the request of the accused’s lawyer.

On the third day of the scheduled three-day trial in Brandon’s Court of King’s Bench, defence lawyer Bob Harrison requested that the trial be adjourned so he can have time to find an expert witness after more information was disclosed.

The accused, 41, is charged with two counts of child luring along with distributing sexually explicit material to a person under 16, inviting a person under 16 to sexually touch him and two child-pornography-related offences.

A publication ban on information that could identify the complainant prevents the Sun from naming the accused.

Crown attorney Rich Lonstrup consented to the adjournment on conditions, including that defence waive the delay.

“It must be understood by the public, the Crown in a trial is not in it to win it. The Crown is to ensure justice is done,” Lonstrup said. “It is a mutual requirement of the Crown and defence to ensure an accused has a fair trial.”

Justice Scott Abel granted the adjournment and echoed Lonstrup’s comments that the accused has the right to a fair trial.

The trial will resume at a future date.
