The Brandon Police Service arrested a man on Thursday for a string of seven armed robberies in less than two weeks.

Police received a report of an armed robbery at a business on the 4100 block of Victoria Avenue after a masked man walked into the store with a replica handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes from an employee. The man fled on a bicycle.

A short time later, police found the suspect at an address on Canada Crescent.

BPS Major Crime Section determined that the suspect was responsible for a total of six armed robberies in Brandon and one in Souris, BPS said in a news release Friday.

The first robbery occurred on Nov. 7, when a man brandishing a knife robbed a business on the 800 block of 18th Street in Brandon. He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The next day, a man brandishing a knife robbed a business on the same block of 18th Street, again making off with cash.

On the following day, Nov. 9, a replica gun was used by a man who robbed a business on the 1200 block of Richmond Avenue of cash.

The action shifted to Souris the next day when a man with a replica gun robbed a business of cash and cigarettes.

In Brandon four days later, on Nov. 14, a man brandishing a replica gun robbed a business on the 2400 block of Victoria Avenue of cash and cigarettes.

Then on Nov. 19, a man with a replica gun robbed a business on the 2500 block of Victoria Avenue of cash and cigarettes.

BPS Major Crime Section conducted an investigation into the robberies with help from the patrol section, organized crime section and RCMP, police said.

After the suspect was arrested, MCS executed search warrants at three properties — a residence on Canada Crescent, a residence on the 2200 block of Brandon Avenue and a property in rural Brandon, BPS said.

Another search warrant was executed on the man’s vehicle, the release said.

Through the searches, police found clothing and a replica handgun, which the suspect had been seen with during the robberies, along with multiple tills and cigarettes, BPS said.

Police said the 39-year-old man from rural Brandon was on parole at the time of the robberies, and that BPS executed a parole revocation warrant while he was in custody.

The man appeared in court on Friday morning and remains in custody on 34 new charges, including armed robbery, disguise with intent, robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm contrary to a probation order.

He is scheduled to appear in court again in December.
