Pianist Linda Ruan, winner of the 2025 Eckhardt-Gramatté (E-Gré) National Music Competition, will return to Brandon University’s Lorne Watson Recital Hall this evening for the final performance of her cross-country winner’s tour.

Ruan, who earned a $6,000 prize from the competition and a national fall tour, is expected to perform at 7:30 p.m. as part of the university’s School of Music’s pro series.

The Brandon concert marks the ninth and final performance of a tour that has taken her across the country, with earlier stops in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

One of the delights of the competition and the ensuing tour is the opportunity to see incredible young musicians grow in their artistry, said Leanne Zacharias, the acting Dean of Music at BU.

“Linda wowed the judges during her performance here in April, and her return engagement this month is sure to be even more spectacular,” Zacharias said.

Held annually at BU since 1976, the E-Gré competition rotates between voice, strings and piano, spotlighting emerging performers and Canadian composers. The 2026 edition will feature voice, with the finals scheduled for April 17–19 at the School of Music.

The Eckhardt-Gramatté Conservatory of Music is a place where students can flourish through music,” conservatory director Dianna Neufeld said.

“The musicians who join us for the E-Gré competition wow us with their talent and dedication, and Linda’s concert promises to be another inspiring experience,” Neufeld said.

Tickets for tonight’s performance at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, located in the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building, are $20 at the door. Admission is free for Brandon University students and Conservatory of Music students.

The School of Music acknowledged the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Manitoba Arts Council.
