A man who appeared to be intoxicated and allegedly locked himself in the bathroom of Swan Valley Health Centre’s emergency room was arrested on Sunday.

Police received the report at around 2:30 p.m., and when they arrived at the health centre, they opened the bathroom door and found a man, known to police, holding a knife, RCMP said in a news release on Monday.

Mounties said the man was not a patient.

The man did not comply with police’s commands to drop the weapon, and officers had to use to use a Taser to take the 45-year-old man into custody, he release said.

The man, from Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, had a minor injury from his weapon before police arrived, RCMP said.

The man was treated at the hospital before he was taken into custody, Mounties said.

He faces a single count of possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes.

Swan River RCMP continues to investigate.
