Warming shelter assault
A woman who allegedly assaulted a staff member at a downtown warming shelter was arrested early Tuesday morning.
Brandon police were called to the 700 block of Princess Avenue for a reported assault just after 2 a.m.

When officers arrived, they learned that a woman had entered the warming shelter and refused to identify herself before locking herself in the bathroom, Brandon police said in a news release.
The suspect later confronted a woman who was working at the shelter “by pushing her up against a door,” police said.
Officers arrested the 23-year-old woman and charged her with assault.
She was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in February 2026.
Traffic stop yields drugs, weapons
The Brandon Police Service arrested a man after officers found drugs and weapons during a traffic stop on Monday.
Officers stopped the vehicle just before 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Ninth Street when they noticed the licence plate was expired.
Police saw alcohol in the vehicle, prompting them to do a further search, BPS said in a news release.
Officers found just under 22 grams of methamphetamine, several baggies, six cellphones and two large knives, police said.
Police arrested the 37-year-old driver and charged him with a single count of possessing methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and two counts each of possessing a weapon and failing to comply with a release order.
The man was also issued tickets for operating an unregistered vehicle, driving without motor vehicle liability insurance, unlawful transportation of liquor in a motor vehicle and possessing fewer than 25 units of unmarked tobacco.
The fines total more than $3,500.
The vehicle was towed, and the man was held in BPS detention cells until his scheduled court appearance on Tuesday.
