An Ochre River woman accused of crashing a pickup truck into an internet infrastructure box in Dauphin, knocking out service in the city, was arrested Monday night.

RCMP received several calls from Dauphin residents about an impaired driver who had just left a business shortly before 8:40 p.m.

Callers said a woman driving a white Ford F-150 left a liquor vendor on First Avenue North after she was denied service and proceeded to drive away erratically, Dauphin RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

The suspect drove into the parking lot of another business and hit a parked vehicle, causing that vehicle to hit another parked vehicle, the release said.

Mounties said the suspect then drove out of the parking lot, and while doing so, ran over a stop sign.

The suspect drove to a different business, onto the lawn and over a Westman Communications box, which caused an internet outage in the city, police said.

She continued on to another business, where she drove over the lawn and just missed a telephone pole before getting stuck near the corner of Jackson Street and First Street Southwest.

Officers arrested the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, and found that she was impaired, Mounties said.

She was transported to the Dauphin RCMP detachment and blew over the legal limit during a breath test.

While the woman was in police custody, she resisted arrest and threatened an officer along with a prisoner, the release said. Before officers got her into a cell, she allegedly pulled the fire alarm.

Candace Burla, 35, faces charges of driving while impaired, driving over 0.08, failing to stop after an accident, mischief over $5,000, false use of a fire alarm, resisting a peace officer and dangerous operation of a conveyance.

She also faces two counts of uttering threats and three counts of mischief under $5,000.

Dauphin RCMP said they were grateful to the people who called 911 after witnessing the “dangerous driving behaviour” and reminded people that they can report any concerning driving behaviour by calling 911 or an emergency line at any time of the day.
