POLICE USE TASER ON FLEEING SUSPECT
The Brandon Police Service arrested a man on Tuesday after finding a handgun and cocaine during a traffic stop.
Police stopped a vehicle and arrested a 27-year-old man who was inside. During a search after his arrest, the man “slapped away the hands of an officer” and tried to flee, BPS said in a news release Wednesday.
Police chased the accused for a short time and used a Taser on him, police said.
Officers found a handgun with a loaded magazine and 30 grams of cocaine inside the vehicle, the release said.
The man faces charges of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, assaulting a police officer, possessing a restricted weapon and other weapon-related charges.
He was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

RCMP SEIZE ‘LARGE QUANTITY’ OF DRUGS ON TRANS-CANADA
An Alberta woman and a Saskatchewan man were arrested last weekend after RCMP seized a “large quantity” of drugs during a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Westman Traffic Services stopped a vehicle on Saturday at around 3:30 p.m. after the driver didn’t slow down and move over while passing an officer who was conducting an unrelated traffic stop west of Brandon, RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
Officers arrested the driver and her passenger.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Mounties said they found three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, 500 grams of crack cocaine, 500 grams of cocaine and some Canadian currency.
Meaghan Hermans, 28, and Jonathon Anaquod, 32, were arrested and taken into custody, where they will remain until their court dates, police said.
Each of the accused faces single counts of possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Westman Traffic Services continues to investigate.
