A woman was arrested earlier this month in connection to a shooting in Sandy Bay First Nation that sent a man to the hospital.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service received a report of a man with a gunshot wound at a residence on Lake Road North shortly after 8 a.m. on Dec. 3, MFNPS said in a news release on Friday.
Officers and emergency medical services responded, and it was confirmed that the man had an injury consistent with a gunshot wound, the release said.
STARS air ambulance transported the man to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg in stable condition, police said.
Police said the shooting happened at the residence and they secured it before executing a search warrant to find evidence related to the shooting.
After further investigation, MFNPS determined that the suspect and the man got into a physical altercation inside the residence, during which a homemade firearm was discharged and struck the man, the release said.
The next day, Sandy Bay First Nation Safety Officers found a suspect and MFNPS arrested 20-year-old Samora Richard.
Richard was charged with assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failure to comply with a release order.
Richard was held in custody until her scheduled court appearance in Portage la Prairie provincial court on Dec. 5.
