The Brandon Police Service arrested a man on Thursday after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver.

BPS received the report of the possibly impaired driver travelling in the middle of Grand Valley Road with half of its front bumper missing at around 5 p.m.

Police were later advised by 911 that the vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Grand Valley Road before allegedly leaving the scene.

Police received another call that a vehicle was in the south ditch near the Research Station on Grand Valley Road.

When officers arrived, they saw the vehicle in the ditch with a man still behind the wheel, BPS said in a news release Friday.

Police said the man refused to give sample of his breath, so officers towed the vehicle and arrested the 61-year-old.

He was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and transported to BPS.

The man was held in detention cells until his scheduled court appearance on Friday.
