Dauphin RCMP arrested two men after allegedly witnessing them steal a package from a charitable organization in the city on Friday.
Dauphin RCMP were sent to a report of a break and enter at a restaurant on Main Street South at around 4 p.m. on Jan. 1.
Mounties learned that while the business was closed, a man entered through the drive-through window and stole donation boxes containing cash, RCMP said in a news release Monday.
Officers identified the suspect through surveillance footage, police said.
The next day, at around 8:40 a.m., while officers were searching for the suspect, they found him and another man stealing a package from a charity on First Avenue NE, RCMP said.
Police arrested the initial suspect, using a Taser on him, the release said. When officers searched the man, they found a concealed knife, police said.
Mounties determined the same suspect was responsible for a break and enter at a business on Main Street North on Nov. 27.
Leroy Parenteau, 42, of Gilbert Plains was taken into custody and faces single counts of carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting a peace officer, theft under $5,000 and two counts each of breaking and entering into a business and possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000.
While police were arresting Parenteau, the second suspect escaped, the release said.
He was located on Jan. 4 in Dauphin and taken into custody.
Mounties said the second man had been in possession of a truck that had been stolen in Dauphin on Jan. 1 after it had been left running and unattended.
The truck had a bank card inside, which police said the man used to make purchases. Police recovered the truck on Jan. 4.
Orrie Flatfoot, 23, of Pine Creek was taken into custody and faces single counts of possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, resisting a peace officer, theft under $5,000 and three counts of possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000.
He also faces charges relating to misuse of a credit card.
