BRANDON UNIVERSITY
The Brandon University New Music Festival takes place today and tomorrow at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. The two-day event will feature the BU New Music Ensemble performing the premieres of compositions by students and other members of the BU community. The concerts, which begin each evening at 7:30, are free and open to all.
Cree/Ojibway artist Felicity Nepinak-Hart will talk about storytelling through art in a Teachings House event on Wednesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. The event will take place in He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room, Room 141 of the Health Studies building at BU. Nepinak-Hart will reflect on how her creations carry the stories and experiences of her parents and people, with a focus on decolonizing through art. All are welcome.
Diana Garcia Cortés of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will give a guest talk on Friday in the Science Seminar Series. She will discuss using genomic data to understand breast cancer. The talk will take place at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-34 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre.
The Bobcat basketball teams are at home to face the MacEwan University Griffins this week, with games on Friday and Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre. The women play at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by the men at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the games start at 5 p.m. for the women, and 7 p.m. for the men. Friday’s games will feature a special reception for BU alumni. Register for alumni night and find ticket information at BrandonU.ca/Events. Today is the deadline to register for the alumni reception. The Bobcat futsal teams are also at home this weekend, with games against the Providence University College Pilots on Saturday. The women’s match begins at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s contest at 11:45.
The BU Big Band and Eklektikos will host a dance on Friday at Bailey’s Cafe in the Knowles-Douglas building. The ensembles will perform an evening of dance music from the swing era all the way to modern pop hits. Tickets are $5 and available at the door.
The Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival will host a concert dedicated to the composer Ravel on Sunday at 7:30 p.m., in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Alexander and Daniel Tselyakov will perform on piano, along with Nancy Hennen on flute, and vocalist Sharon Rogers. Ticket information is available by calling 204-571-6547 or by emailing Tselyakov@hotmail.com.

Lots of Assiniboine Cougars action in store for this weekend! The Cougars futsal teams play host to the Providence University College Pilots this Friday night at the Victoria Avenue East campus before heading out on the road Saturday to play the USB Les Rouges. Meanwhile, our Cougars hockey team travels south to take on Lake Region State College in Devils Lake on Saturday, and finally, our volleyball teams play a pair of games against the CMU Blazers at the Victoria Avenue East gymnasium this weekend.
