BRANDON UNIVERSITY

The Brandon University School of Music presents “More than a Song,” a gospel music residency, this week. The residency will include workshops and performances featuring Montreal musicians Frédéricka Petit-Homme, Myrtle Thomas and Alexandre Paquette, including a talk about African American sacred music on Tuesday at 12:40 p.m., in Room 1-57 of the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building. The week will conclude with a musical celebration and gathering on Friday at 7:30 p.m., in Room 1-20 of the music building. Admission for the musical celebration is $10, but free for BU students. The video launch of the graphic novella, “It Happened to Me & it’s not OK” will take place on Tuesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. The motion-based video, which shares stories of sexual violence in a compelling format, features artwork by Merissa Mayhew and voice performances by the research team. A question-and-answer session will follow the video presentation.

Domestic students who are interested in attending BU can apply for free during an online event on Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. The first 100 registrants for the information session will receive a coupon code to apply for BU for free. Registration is available at BrandonU.ca.

Cheryl Greenberg of the Health Sciences Centre will talk about new treatments for rare genetic disorders in a Science Seminar Series event on Friday. The talk will take place at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-34 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre and will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.

The Bobcats men’s volleyball team will play their final home matches of the Canada West regular season this weekend. The Bobcats will host the University of Alberta Golden Bears on Friday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 6 p.m., at the Healthy Living Centre. The basketball and futsal teams are on the road, while the women’s volleyball squad has the weekend off.

The Brandon Chamber Players will present Theresa Thor and the SunDog Ensemble as they share their curious, playful approach to music on Saturday evening at 7:30 in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit BrandonChamberPlayers.ca.

Meanwhile, our women’s hockey team is on the road for a pair of games against NDSU and the University of Wisconsin Madison at the Altoona Sports Centre in Wisconsin. Finally, our Cougars futsal team travels to play Canadian Mennonite University at the Loewen Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
