DRIVER TRIES TO FLEE, DRUGS SEIZED
A Swan River man who allegedly had illicit drugs in his vehicle and tried to flee from police when they tried to pull him over was arrested on Monday.
A vehicle was travelling west on Main Street in Swan River at around 2:30 a.m. when the driver failed to heed a traffic stop and sped up, RCMP said in a news release on Wednesday.
Shortly after, the vehicle hit a curb on Ninth Avenue North, and the occupants got out, attempting to run from police, Mounties said.
Officers caught up with the suspect and took him into custody.
Police searched the vehicle after his arrest and seized cocaine, methamphetamine and drug trafficking paraphernalia, the release said.
The 46-year-old man faces two counts of possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking and single counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000.
BRANDON TRAFFIC STOP YIELDS PSILOCYBIN
The Brandon Police Service arrested a man and woman on Tuesday after finding psilocybin during a traffic stop.
Officers pulled over a vehicle in the 1200 block of Van Horne Avenue and saw a spoon inside with cocaine residue, BPS said in a news release.
Officers searched the vehicle and seized around 8.5 grams of psilocybin, which they found in the glove compartment, police said.
A 34-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were arrested and charged with possessing an illicit substance. The woman was also charged with failing to comply with her release order, as she was bound by a condition that she not possess drugs.
The man was released on an appearance notice with a court date scheduled in April. The woman was held in BPS detention cells and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
