Bukola Salami, a Canada Research Chair from the University of Calgary, will visit Brandon University this week. In addition to leading sessions for students and faculty, she will give a public talk on access to health care for Black and racialized people in Canada. This talk will take place on Tuesday, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., in the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. The event is free, but please pre-register online at Events.BrandonU.ca.

Mark McDougall of BU’s Department of Biology will look back 290 million years at the early evolution of terrestrial vertebrates in this week’s Science Seminar Series event. The talk will take place on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-34 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. The talk will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for details.

The Bobcat volleyball and futsal teams will wrap up their regular season play with away games this weekend. This weekend also marks the start of the Canada West basketball playoffs.

The Loy and Excellentia Initiative will host a Black History Month celebration on Saturday. Loy Excellentia is a mentorship program for Black university students, and more information about the organization is available at LoyExcellentia.org.

Learn to Play Pickleball sessions will take place at the Healthy Living Centre on Feb. 15 and March 1, from 9 to 11 a.m., each day. All skill levels are welcome. Visit HealthyLivingCentre.ca for more information or to register.

Brandon University will be closed on Feb. 16 for Louis Riel Day, and students will be off for winter break for the remainder of next week. Classes will resume on Feb. 23.
