TODAY
• Day — The Skating Oval is open at 2020 McGregor Ave. The display of lights is immediately east of the Parks Complex at 2020 McGregor Ave. (also accessible via Hilton Avenue). The lights are on from 5 to 11 p.m. Warming shacks are operational from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. No public vehicles are allowed in the direct area of the Waterfall of Lights display. Visitors are encouraged to park in the designated areas along McGregor Avenue or Hilton Avenue and enjoy the walk through this magical winter scene.

• 9 a.m. — The North Hub Outdoor Rink (at Sportsplex, 30 Knowlton Dr., north parking lot) is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Parking available in the south parking lot only. • 9 a.m. — Hanbury Hill in Sir Winston Churchill Park (600 Braecrest Dr.) is open and ready for sledders. You can warm up in the gazebo, which is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The lights are on daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Other toboggan hills within the city include Rideau Park, Wheat City Golf Course/Recreation Centre. Smaller hills at 34th Street and Cherry Crescent sliding hill and Parkdale Park sliding hill.
• 9:30 a.m. — Asessippi Ski Resort (Provincial Trunk Highway 83, Inglis) is open. Plan your runs, tubing laps, chalet time and everything in between. • 8:30 a.m. — Crocus Obedience and Kennel Club Confirmation Dog Shows take place over the weekend at the Keystone Centre. COKC will offer six limited-entry conformation show, three obedience trials and three rally trials. This event is open to the public between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Special event for junior handlers (aged 5-18 years) at noon. Today will feature conformation. Will also feature baby puppy events each day.
• 10 a.m. — Skate the Lake (hockey) and Rock the Lake (curling) returns to Minnedosa Lake again this year. Hockey starting at 10 a.m. and curling starting at 11 a.m. Canteen and beer gardens in the Beach Pavilion. Games will be played according to draw that will be posted to skatethelake.ca.
• 10 a.m. — Friends of Riding Mountain National Park Learning Centre (154 Columbine St., Wasagaming), invite you to enjoy Louis Riel Weekend. Today: Fat bike, Kickspark, snowshoe and snow tube rentals; French Canadian pea soup and bun fundraiser; winter adventure quest for kids; group snowshoe; Bannock roast. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. In the Main Gallery is “The Performance of Being,” a retrospective of work by Canadian artist Leesa Streifler on until April 4. In the Kayes Family Community Gallery is “The Boy in the Forest,” a storybook collaboration project, on until March 22. • Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. • Feb. 21 — Assiniboine Food Forest presents Brandon Seedy Saturday at the Ukrainian Reading Hall (1005 Assiniboine Ave.) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Seed swap and local vendors.
• Feb. 22 — The 13th annual Vintage Snowmobile Derby and Show will take place in Birtle. Registration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Birtle Fire Hall. This ride is intended for vintage sleds 25 years or older. The 20-mile-long trail will be well marked with some of it winding through scenic Birdtail Valley. There will be a vintage sled display area in front of the fire hall for your enjoyment. Lunch provided after the ride. Riders: $10 or 3/$20. Silent riders $5 or 3/$10. There’s a 50 per cent payout. Proceeds to the Birtle Fire Department Special Equipment Fund.
• Feb. 22 —Westman Jams gathers on the last Sunday of each month to play classic country music at The Fringe Restaurant and Lounge on Cove Road in Shilo from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome. Entrance to CFB Shilo is now through the north gate only and valid identification is required to enter the base. We accept donations to the Reg Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund to help send Westman students to the International Music Camp at the International Peace Garden. • Feb. 24 — City of Brandon Parks and Recreation offers Learn to Draw. Learn the foundations of pencil drawing in a relaxed, fun, and supportive environment. This program will focus on building skills for techniques such as shading, depth and perspective. For ages 14 and up. Takes place on Tuesdays from Feb. 24 to March 31 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Cultural Resource Centre (638 Princess Ave., Door B). Includes a sketching and drawing set and sketch pad. Cost is $80. • Feb. 26 — The Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba’s 2026 President’s Dinner will be held in the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn. This 28th annual President’s Dinner is in support of Education in Agriculture and will be featuring performances by The Salty Circus. • Feb. 26 — Assiniboine College presents Cured and Crafted: A Charcuterie and Beer Experience from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This event features a delicious, curated selection of charcuterie boards paired with specially selected beers chosen to complement each item. Our culinary arts students will showcase their creativity and skill by presenting and exquisite tasting experience, featuring a specialty menu designed for discovery and enjoyment. • Feb. 26-28 — Mecca Productions presents William Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium with shows on Feb. 26 and 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510. Feb. 27 is Medieval Jazz VIP Night which will feature dinner, music and entertainment in the Grand Salon before the show. • Feb. 28 — The Coldest Night of the Year event takes place at Knox United Church. This family-friendly walk raises funds in support of Samaritan House Ministries. Walkers check in at 4 p.m. Walk the designated route from 5 to 6 p.m., then return to the church for a light meal if you wish, ending at 7 p.m.
• Feb. 28-March 1 — Join us for the 16th anniversary of the Brandon University Clarinet Festival at the Queen Elizabeth II Music Building. This year we are featuring an incredible lineup of guest artists, including Jonathan Russell, Alex Whitehead and Colin Mehmel. The festival features BU faculty Leanne Zacharias and Callie Siverson and BU alumni Danielle Guina and Lisa Rumpel. Guest conductor Cheryl Ferguson will lead the festival clarinet choir. The BU Clarinet Choir and festival host Cathy Wood will also be performing. The festival includes workshops, vendors and concerts.

• March 7 — The Western Manitoba Women’s Centre kicks off a series of annual fundraising with their first major event in honour of International Women’s Day: “A Night to Stand Up for Women,” in the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn.
