It’s Day 12 of competition at the Milan Cortina Olympics, where Canadians are competing in medal events in slopestyle, aerials, speed skating and more.

Here are the latest developments. All times Eastern.

4:15 p.m.

Canada’s women’s curling team has defeated Italy 8-7. 

The team led by Rachel Homan is now in a three-way tie for third place with South Korea and the United States also at 5-3.

Sweden leads the way at 7-2, followed by Switzerland at 6-2.

3:45 p.m.

Canadian short-track speedskater Steven Dubois has won gold in the men’s 500 metres.

Dubois finished with a time of 40.835 seconds, followed by the Netherlands’ Melle van ’t Wout and Jens van ’t Wout. 

Dubois’ gold brings Canada’s total medal count to 14.

3:12 p.m.

Canadian short-track speedskaters have won a bronze medal in the women’s 3,000-metre relay.

With the third-place finish, Courtney Sarault — part of the team of four that led much of the relay — wins her fourth medal at the Games after a silver and a bronze in individual events as well as a silver in the mixed team relay.

2:57 p.m

Canadians William Dandjinou and Steven Dubois have advanced to the final in men’s 500-metre short-track speedskating.

Dandjinou won his semifinal, while Dubois was second in his semi.

Maxime Laoun was fourth in his semifinal and will race in the B final.

2:28 p.m.

William Dandjinou and Maxime Laoun will join Steven Dubois in the semifinals in the men’s 500-metre short track.

Dandjinou came in first in his heat at 40.330 seconds.

Laoun was fastest among third-place finishers in the quarterfinals, coming in at 0.124 seconds behind Dandjinou.

2:18 p.m.

Canadian speedskater Steven Dubois has qualified for the semifinals in the men’s 500-metre short track.

He came in first in his heat with a time of 40.377 seconds.

William Dandjinou and Maxime Laoun will compete shortly.

1:15 p.m.

Mitch Marner scores the winner as Canada beats Czechia 4-3 in overtime to win their Olympic men’s hockey quarterfinal.

Canada and Czechia are headed to overtime in their Olympic men’s hockey quarterfinal.

Nick Suzuki scored for Canada to tie the game 3-3.

Ondrej Palat had given Czechia a 3-2 lead earlier in the period.

12:40 p.m.

Captain Sidney Crosby will not return for Canada’s men’s hockey quarterfinal against Czechia.

Crosby sustained an apparent leg injury in the second period.

He is playing in his third Olympics after helping Canada win gold in 2010 and 2014.

Canada captain Sidney Crosby is not on the bench to start the third period in Canada’s quarterfinal hockey game against Czechia.

The two-time gold medallist was injured early in the second period with an apparent leg injury.

12:12 p.m.

Canada and Czechia are tied 2-2 heading into the third period of the men’s quarterfinal hockey game in Milan. 

Macklin Celebrini and Nathan MacKinnon have scored for Canada, while David Pastrnak and Lukas Sedlak have answered for the Czechs.

Canada is out-shooting Czechia 28-15.

Connor McDavid has tied the men’s hockey record for most points at an Olympics featuring NHL players with his 11th of the Milan Cortina Games.

McDavid had an assist on Nathan MacKinnon’s power-play goal that tied Canada’s quarterfinal with Czechia at 2-2.

McDavid’s 11th point tied Finns Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu, who set the record at the 2006 Turin Games.

11:47 p.m.

Captain Sidney Crosby has left Canada’s quarterfinal hockey game against Czechia with an injury.

Crosby left the ice early in the second period. 

He was favouring his right leg.

11:18 a.m.

Canada’s men’s hockey team is trailing for the first time at the Milan Cortina Olympics.

David Pastrnak scored a go-ahead goal on a power play to give Czechia a 2-1 lead after the first period of their quarterfinal against Canada.

Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring for Canada before Czechia’s Lukas Sedlak tied the game to make it 1-1.

10:40 a.m.

Canada’s men’s hockey team kicked off their quarterfinal match against Czechia, scoring an early goal before the Czechs bounced back with one of their own.

Nineteen-year-old Macklin Celebrini scored off a pass from Connor McDavid about three minutes into the first period.

Soon after, Lukas Sedlak tied the game to make it 1-1.

10:30 a.m.

Canada curling skip Brad Jacobs tuned up ahead of the the playoffs with an 8-3 victory over Joel Retornaz of host Italy.

Jacobs and his Calgary-based team of Marc Kennedy, Brett Gallant and Ben Hebert improved their record to 7-1.

Canada will close out its round-robin schedule on Thursday morning against Norway’s Magnus Ramsfjell before entering the semifinals that evening, where Canada has already clinched a spot.

10 a.m.

Canada’s Laurie Blouin has finished fifth in the finals of the women’s snowboard slopestyle.

Blouin won silver in slopestyle in 2018 in Pyeongchang but was unable to return to the podium with a best score of 68.60 over her three runs.

Japan’s Mari Fukada won the gold, ahead of New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski Synnott in silver and Japan’s Kokomo Murase with the bronze. Canada’s Juliette Pelchat finished ninth.

9:30 a.m.

Canada defenceman Josh Morrissey and forward Sam Bennett will be scratched when the men’s hockey team takes on Czechia in today’s quarterfinal at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena.

Morrissey hasn’t played since exiting with an undisclosed injury early in the second period of Canada’s tournament-opening 5-0 win over Czechia. Bennett missed practice yesterday for maintenance. Both players skated this morning.

Forward Brad Marchand, who hasn’t played since Canada’s first game, will draw into the lineup for Bennett. 

7:49 a.m.

Canadian freestyle skier Marion Thénault has just missed qualifying for the super final in the women’s aerials.

Thénault put down scores of 103.89 and 101.90, putting her in seventh place.

Only the top six move on, with Australia’s Danielle Scott topping the field in the first finals round.

6:55 a.m.

Canada’s Mark McMorris won’t be on the podium of the men’s snowboard slopestyle.

The three-time Olympic bronze medallist from Regina fell on his third and final run, putting him out of medal contention.

The 32-year-old ended up eighth, while Havelock, Ont.’s Cameron Spalding placed 10th.

6:46 a.m.

The Canadian men’s cross-country skiers have duplicated the women’s result, with a sixth in the men’s team sprint free.

Antoine Cyr and Xavier McKeever were Canada’s team.

Norway, the United States and Italy were first, second and third, respectively.

6:24 a.m.

Canada’s cross-country skiers have finished sixth in the final of the women’s team sprint free.

The team of Liliane Gagnon and Alison Mackie finished in a time of 20 minutes, 49.43 seconds.

Sweden, Switzerland and Germany topped the podium.

6 a.m.

Canada’s Marion Thénault has topped the first qualifier in the women’s freestyle skiing aerials. 

The 25-year-old was the only athlete to break 100 points with her jump, and has advanced straight to the final later today.

Thénault won a bronze medal with Miha Fontaine and Lewis Irving in the mixed team aerials event in Beijing 2022.
