A Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation man was arrested after police found drugs and a firearm at a residence.
The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) received a report on Monday of a suicidal person at a residence on Center Road in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation where firearms were present.
Because of the nature of the call, Sandy Bay Child and Family Services also went to the scene.
However, when police arrived, they found the call was “unfounded,” MFNPS said in a news release on Wednesday.
While on scene, police saw a firearm and drug paraphernalia that “indicated potential drug trafficking,” police said.
Officers secured the residence and got a search warrant.
Police searched the home and seized four grams of cocaine, 116 grams of methamphetamine, items related to drug trafficking and a firearm, MFNPS said.
Joseph William Desmarais, 48, was arrested and charged with several weapon and drug-related offences.
Desmarais was held in custody.
