Officer, family threatened

A man who allegedly threatened to kill a police officer was arrested early Saturday morning.

Just after midnight, the Brandon Police Service responded to a report of a man wearing a balaclava and threatening staff at a business on the 1000 block of 18th Street.

Police found the suspect nearby, and after they arrested him, the man threatened — multiple times — to kill the officer and his family, BPS said in a news release.

The 31-year-old man was charged with uttering threats and held in BPS detention cells before he was released on an undertaking.

He is scheduled to appear in court in April.

Impaired charge after collision

A man involved in a collision at an intersection on the Trans-Canada Highway has been charged with impaired driving after blowing twice the legal limit, police say.

The Brandon Police Service responded to a collision involving a truck and a car at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and First Street North on Saturday at around 8:40 p.m.

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man from Rivers, showed signs of alcohol impairment, and police arrested him, BPS said in a news release.

The man later gave breath samples, which registered at twice the legal limit, BPS said.

The man’s vehicle was seized and he was released with a court date scheduled for later this week.

Police said no injuries were reported in relation to the collision.

Cocaine and cash

The Brandon Police Service arrested three people on Sunday after a traffic stop turned up drugs, cash and drug-trafficking paraphernalia.

Police pulled over a vehicle in the 1100 block of 26th Street at around 11:30 a.m., and officers detained the three occupants for an investigation.

A police service dog searched the exterior of the vehicle and indicated that drugs were present, BPS said in a news release.

Officers searched the vehicle and found 4.6 grams of cocaine inside a bag in the backseat, along with $6,070 cash inside a suitcase in the trunk, BPS said.

Police said they also seized baggies and a scale.

Two men, aged 32 and 29, and a 40-year-old woman were charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Officers also found $2,370 in cash and a cellphone on the 32-year-old man and $370 in cash on the other man.

All three of them were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in court in May.

Assault charge

A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a woman on Friday.

The Brandon Police Service received a report of a disturbance in the 200 block of Fifth Street, and when officers arrived, they determined a man had assaulted a 26-year-old woman, BPS said in a news release.

Officers arrested a 53-year-old man, and because of his level of intoxication, police held him in BPS detention cells before releasing him on an undertaking.

He is expected to appear in court in April.
