ASSAULT AND UTTERING THREATS

Brandon police arrested a man for assault and uttering threats after receiving reports of banging and screaming at a home early Wednesday morning.

Officers with the Brandon Police Service were sent to the residence on the 100 block of 13th Street for a well-being check at around 6 a.m.

Nobody responded when officers knocked on the door. Police shone their flashlights through a window and saw blood smeared on the wall and droplets on the floor, BPS said in a news release.

Police forced entry into the residence and arrested a 27-year-old man.

BPS said they learned through further investigation that a woman in the residence was woken up by a man trying to flip her mattress. The man proceeded to punch and kick the woman, as well as pull her hair, police said.

At one point, the woman armed herself with a knife to defend herself, BPS said. The man grabbed the knife and cut his finger as a result, which was the source of the blood police saw through the window, the release said.

BPS requested emergency medical technicians to come to the scene. The man was taken to the Brandon Regional Health Centre, while the woman was treated at the scene.

Police took the man to BPS headquarters, and he was scheduled to appear in court later that day.

BUSINESS ROBBERY

Brandon police arrested an Ontario man for robbery after he allegedly demanded cash from a convenience store on Tuesday.

Officers with the Brandon Police Service were sent to the business on the 700 block of 12th Street at around 8 p.m. following a report of a robbery in progress, BPS said in a news release.

A bystander called police after they saw an employee running out of the store.

Police said the man had entered the store yelling and demanding the cash tray.

Officers immediately found a suspect still inside the store. Police arrested him and said he had merchandise in his jacket pocket.

A 51-year-old man was transported to BPS headquarters, where he was held until his scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.

MISCHIEF TO VEHICLE

Brandon police arrested a woman on Tuesday after she allegedly shot a vehicle with a BB gun and slashed two tires.

Police responded to a report of property damage in the 1200 block of Ninth Street in the afternoon and saw the damaged vehicle.

The vehicle owner knew the suspect, the Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

Police arrested a 22-year-old woman in connection with the incident and charged her with mischief under $5,000.

She was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in May.

POLICE HQ DAMAGE

A man was arrested after he allegedly caused damage at Brandon Police Service headquarters on Tuesday.

A man walked into the vestibule at BPS’s headquarters at around 6:45 a.m. and tore the receiver off the phone in the vestibule before leaving, BPS said in a media release.

Police found and arrested a 46-year-old man. He was charged with a single count of mischief under $5,000 and was held in custody overnight.

The man was released on Wednesday morning and is scheduled to appear in court in May.
