BLEW 4 TIMES OVER THE LIMIT

A woman faces charges for driving impaired after blowing four times the legal limit on Thursday, Brandon police say.

Police received a report of a possible impaired driver stopped at the intersection of 12th Street North and Stickney Avenue at around 12:45 p.m. The caller told police the vehicle had been stopped for 20 to 30 minutes, the Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

The caller said the woman was honking at pedestrians, made “obscene gestures” when approached and seemed heavily impaired, police said.

Police found the vehicle with the driver inside and arrested her after she provided breath samples with a blood-alcohol content of 0.340 and 0.320, BPS said. The legal limit in Manitoba is 0.08.

The woman was lodged in BPS detention cells, and police planned to release her once she was sober.

The 36-year-old woman was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while impaired and operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content over 0.08. She was also ticketed for operating a Class 5 vehicle without a supervising driver and failing to comply with licence restrictions.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the woman is expected to appear in court on Monday.

WOMAN ARRESTED FOR COCAINE

Two women were arrested on Thursday after police found cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia during a traffic stop.

Police pulled over a vehicle in the 800 block of 15th Street at around 9:45 p.m.

Officers saw a baggie on the floor, which they believed contained a controlled substance, and arrested both occupants, the Brandon Police Service said in a news release.

Police searched the vehicle and found 14.77 grams of cocaine, along with measuring devices with white powder on them, packaging material and other drug paraphernalia, BPS said.

A 52-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman were charged with possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Both were released on undertakings and scheduled to appear in court in May.
