FLIGHT FROM POLICE
A man who allegedly fled from police after failing to stop for a stop sign was arrested early Friday morning.
Shortly after midnight, police saw a vehicle go through a stop sign in the 600 block of Van Horne Avenue. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency lights and followed the vehicle until it tried to turn and ended up hitting a fence, BPS said in a news release.
The vehicle came to a stop in the 1300 block of Eighth Street, and three of its occupants surrendered while a fourth ran away, BPS said.
Officers set up a perimeter and, with help from BPS’s K9 unit, found the suspect in the area of Third Street and Victoria Avenue, police said.
The vehicle, which police said was unregistered, was towed. Police said the man who ran away was the driver and officers arrested him.
A 39-year-old man was charged with flight from police and resisting arrest, along with some Highway Traffic Act offences. He was held in BPS cells and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
The other three people were released with no charges laid against them.
WOMAN ASSAULTED, CONFINED
A man was arrested on Thursday and faces several charges following a report that a woman had been assaulted, sexually assaulted and held against her will.
A woman reported the matter to police and gave a statement on Tuesday, during which she said the assault and confinement occurred between Sunday and Monday, BPS said in a news release.
Police arrested a 32-year-old man on Thursday and charged him with assault with a weapon, sexual assault and forcible confinement. He was held in BPS detention cells and scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
