Brandon police were sent to a home on Driedger Bay at 6:50 p.m. after a report of an assault.
The suspect had left the scene before police arrived, but was located nearby, arrested and taken to police headquarters, where he was held in custody to appear in court Friday morning.
Police say it was also reported that the man was in possession of a knife during the incident.
The man faces additional charges of assault with a weapon, assault by choking, breach of court order and being unlawfully in a dwelling.
