The Brandon Police Service arrested four people after a residence was broken into and several firearms were stolen.
On Friday, a BPS officer tried to stop a truck in the 1000 block of 26th Street at around 10:15 a.m. The vehicle didn’t stop and continued west on Willowdale Crescent and eventually onto 34th Street, BPS said in a news release on Monday.
The officer stopped the pursuit because of the amount of traffic in the area at the time, and officers searched the area for the truck, BPS said.
Police learned that the truck had been stolen from a residence on the 400 block of 22nd Street and that the residence itself had been broken into a few days prior, police said.
Several firearms, among other items, had been stolen from the residence, the release said.
Officers found the stolen truck — unoccupied — in the 2900 block of Rosser Avenue with several firearms and other stolen items inside, police said.
BPS’s Major Crime Section took over the investigation, with help from several other units, and police identified four suspects, the release said. Police said three of the suspects were responsible for the break and enter.
The four suspects were arrested in Brandon.
On Friday and Saturday, police executed search warrants at an address on Elviss Crescent and another on the 1900 block of Queens Avenue, during which police found “large amounts” of stolen property from the break-in.
Kole Walker Blackbird, 28, from Keeseekoowenin, 21-year-old Shyla Jayne McKay from Brandon and 22-year-old Cashes Jay Alex Ducharme from Waywayseecappo have been charged with several break-and-enter and firearm-related offences.
Xavierra Star Sunrise Cook, 23, from Brandon has been charged with several firearm-related offences, along with possessing property obtained by crime and five counts of failing to comply with her probation order.
All the suspects were taken into custody, and police are still investigating the matter.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding this matter to call BPS’s Major Crime Section at 204-729-2345 or Brandon Crime Stoppers at 204-727-TIPS (8477).
