The Manitoba Progressive Conservatives have nominated a Brandon MLA to run for the party in the next election.
The party announced Wayne Balcaen as its candidate in a press release Wednesday.
“I’m extremely pleased to be once again nominated for Brandon West and be able to put my name forward to serve the citizens of not only Brandon West, but all of Brandon and certainly Westman,” Balcaen told the Sun.

Balcaen was first elected in 2023 after retiring as chief of the Brandon Police Service.
“I’m extremely happy with my history since I’ve been elected, and the results that I’ve gleaned for not only Brandon West, but all of Brandon, and I look forward to continuing to serve our great community,” he said.
Along with Balcaen, the PC party previously nominated several other candidates for the next election in Westman, including Jodie Byram (Agassiz), Greg Nesbitt (Riding Mountain), Colleen Robbins (Spruce Woods) and Rick Wowchuk (Swan River), along with several candidates in other parts of the province.
Doyle Piwniuk (Turtle Mountain) announced he will leave politics at the end of his term, and two people, Wally Daudrich and Mark Custance, have said they will be seeking the party’s nomination.
The party also has not announced candidates in Brandon East and Dauphin, both of which are currently held by NDP MLAs Glen Simard and Ron Kostyshyn, respectively.
The next provincial election is scheduled for October 2027.
