Easter weekend was celebrated in Brandon and across Westman with egg hunts and community gatherings offering fun for all ages.

Leading the lineup was Assiniboine College’s ninth annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday at its North Hill campus.

Jana Sproule, academic chair at the Peters School of Business, said the event has grown steadily over the years and saw one of its biggest turnouts yet.

“Each year I kind of take a guess as to how many chocolate bunnies I’m going to need, and this year I might have guessed low,” she said. “More than 500 children took part this year. This feels like a banner year.”

Sproule said while weather often influences attendance, the event continues to draw a diverse crowd.

“We seem to get a really wide mix of people. A lot of new Canadians come out — some may be experiencing something like this for the first time — but everyone just comes together to have fun.”

Beyond the traditional egg hunt, children also had the chance to find special items, including golden eggs and carrots, which could be exchanged for prizes or entered into draws.

Organizers also offered 12 tuition credits worth $1,000 each as part of the college’s 65th anniversary celebrations, she said.

Other Easter weekend events also drew families across the city and region.

At George Strange’s Bookmart, the fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt ran Saturday in partnership with Prairie Showcase, offering a full day of activities in a downtown setting.

On Sunday, Promises Bridal hosted its second annual Easter Egg Hunt at Princess Park, providing another family-friendly outdoor option.

Meanwhile, the ski season wrapped up at Asessippi Ski Area & Resort with its annual Asessippi Eggstravaganza, combining spring skiing with festive Easter activities.
