CFB SHILO — Families from CFB Shilo and neighbouring areas gathered at the base on Saturday for Springfest, a lively community event celebrating the arrival of spring.

The event, held in Building L25 and formerly known as EasterFest, featured a variety of activities designed for all ages. Attendees enjoyed an interactive dinosaur zone, mini putt, games, face painting and a free hot brunch, while a magic show drew a crowd of excited children and parents alike.

Springfest spokesperson Jolynn Carmichael said the event has continued to bring communities together for about two decades.

“This event is a combination of a celebration of spring and Easter. We run it every year, and it’s really for the CFB Shilo community and the surrounding area,” she said.

One of the main attractions this year was the return of dinosaur-themed inflatables and activities, which Carmichael said have become a favourite in recent years.

“The dinosaurs have been a hit,” she said. “Additional attractions included a magic show, axe throwing and face painting provided by Blue Lavender Body and Face Art.”

The event also featured a pancake brunch organized by a local service club, offering families a chance to gather and enjoy a free meal together, she said.

While this was Carmichael’s first year assisting with planning, she said the event has grown steadily in recent years.

Organizers planned for about 300 attendees.

Despite the scale of the event, Carmichael said the planning went smoothly. “We’ve got this pretty dialed in. It’s not our first time doing this event, so we know what people want,” she said.
