Mounties arrested a Keeseekowenin man after he allegedly crashed into several parked cars near a daycare last week in Rossburn and proceeded to assault a man soon after.

Russell RCMP responded to a collision involving a van and three parked cars on Victoria Avenue at around 3 p.m.

The crash was in close proximity to a daycare at a time when parents with their young children were coming and going from the building, RCMP said in a news release on Thursday.

Investigators determined the van was travelling at a high rate of speed, causing damage to all involved vehicles, police said.

A short time later, Mounties found out that a man matching the driver’s description had just assaulted a man at a nearby hotel, the release said. The victim went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 3:30 p.m., several people waved down officers and pointed out the suspect, who was walking, police said.

Police arrested Lawrence Jade Shingoose, 31, and charged him with assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, failing to stop after an accident, driving while impaired and operating a vehicle while over 0.08.

Shingoose was remanded into custody.
